World Sight Day is the most important advocacy and communications event on the eye health calendar. It is a great time to engage with the world at large – a patient’s family, those who seldom get an eye exam, diabetics. This year, let us ensure that we pay attention to  eye care issues  that impact lives everywhere, both developed and developing economies. What’s the first thing you can do? Plan for an eye examination. Look around in your family, especially for those who are vulnerable:  young, school-going children ,  the elderly ,  those with diabetes . KARVA CHAUTH Karva Chauth  is a one-day festival celebrated by  Hindu  women in  Northern India , in which married women  fast  from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. The fast is traditionally celebrated in the states of  Rajasthan , parts of  Uttar Pradesh ,  Himachal Pradesh ,  Haryana , and  Punjab . The festival falls on the fourth day after the  full moon , in the  Hindu lunisolar calendar  month of  Kartik . Sometimes, unmarried women join the fast for their  fiancés  or desired husbands. INDIAN AIR FORCE The  Indian Air Force   is the  air arm  of the  Indian armed forces . Its complement of personnel and aircraft assets ranks fourth amongst the air forces of the world. Its primary mission is to secure Indian  airspace  and to conduct  aerial warfare  during armed conflict. It was officially established on 8 October 1932 as an auxiliary air force of the  British Empire  which honored India's aviation service during World War II with the prefix  Royal .  After India gained independence from the  United Kingdom  in 1947, the name Royal Indian Air Force was kept and served in the name of  Dominion of India . With the government's transition to a Republic in 1950, the prefix  Royal  was removed after only three years. Since 1950 the IAF has been involved in  four wars  with neighboring  Pakistan  and one with the People's Republic of China.
